Apex Legends Mobile was an ambitious touch-screen adaptation with fluid movement, hero abilities, battle royale squads, and a mobile-exclusive third-person option. Electronic Arts ended service on May 1, 2023, so it is no longer playable and should be viewed only as a historical mobile shooter.

Apex Legends Mobile translated Respawn's squad battle royale into a version designed specifically for phones. Teams selected Legends with distinct tactical, passive, and ultimate abilities, landed on a large map, gathered weapons and armor, and moved toward a shrinking safe zone. Sliding, climbing, respawn beacons, contextual pings, and character synergy gave matches more mobility and teamwork than many mobile shooters of its period.

The adaptation was not simply the console build running on a smaller screen. It used separate progression, balance, events, and content, and offered touch-friendly customization plus a third-person camera option. Arena-style modes and shorter activities provided alternatives when a full battle royale match was too demanding.

At its best, the game showed that complex hero-shooter movement could work on mobile hardware. It also faced substantial problems. The number of on-screen controls was intimidating, performance varied sharply across devices, and separate development meant it could not share progression or players with the main Apex Legends ecosystem.

Monetization and seasonal progression added another layer to an already crowded interface. Electronic Arts sunset Apex Legends Mobile and closed its servers on May 1, 2023. Because matches depended on those servers, the official game is no longer playable.

Downloads claiming to restore it should be treated cautiously. Its legacy is an impressive but short-lived adaptation, not a current recommendation.

When the service was active, players selected a Legend and joined a squad. After choosing a landing area, teams collected guns, ammunition, armor, healing supplies, and attachments. The ring steadily reduced the playable space, so squads needed to rotate before taking damage outside it.

The last surviving team won the battle royale match. Each Legend combined a passive trait, a tactical ability with a shorter cooldown, and a powerful ultimate. Good squads used complementary abilities, shared loot, marked enemies through the ping system, and recovered teammate banners for respawn when possible.

Movement relied on sprinting, sliding, climbing, and using terrain to break enemy sightlines. Touch layouts could be rearranged, and practice modes helped players tune sensitivity. These instructions are historical.

EA closed the servers on May 1, 2023, and there is no legitimate offline mode for normal matches. Players seeking a current Apex experience must use the supported PC or console version of Apex Legends rather than unofficial mobile packages.
