Description

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City remains a stylish 1980s crime story with memorable radio, neon atmosphere, and a compact city. Its personality survives, but dated aiming, fragile missions, and old mobile controls are significant barriers.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Review

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City follows Tommy Vercetti as a failed drug deal pushes him into a struggle for control of a fictional Miami-inspired city. The story grows from errands for local figures into property ownership and a criminal empire. Vice City’s greatest strength is tone.

Pastel hotels, beaches, storms, sunsets, fashion, and licensed radio create a stronger period identity than the game’s relatively simple map might suggest. Driving across the city often remains more memorable than individual combat encounters. Missions introduce motorcycles, boats, helicopters, remote vehicles, shootouts, and property tasks.

Variety is high, but checkpoint design is old. A failed final step can require another long drive and repeated preparation, while aiming and camera controls are awkward by modern standards. The original mobile package is still listed and is separate from Vice City – The Definitive Edition.

Touch controls can be customized, and a supported controller may improve difficult missions. New-device compatibility should still be checked. Vice City is worth preserving as an individual review because its soundtrack, setting, and shorter empire-building arc differ from GTA III and San Andreas.

It is best approached as an older game whose atmosphere compensates for mechanical friction, not as a seamless modern open world.

How to Play Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Follow story contacts until properties become available, then complete asset missions required for later story progression. Save at owned properties and keep armor and ammunition ready before difficult objectives. Use the radar to learn bridges, weapon shops, Pay ’n’ Spray locations, and safe houses.

Motorcycles are fast but expose Tommy to collisions; cars provide more protection during wanted-level escapes. In gunfights, maintain distance, use manual or assisted targeting carefully, and avoid standing beside vehicles that may explode. Customize touch button positions and steering.

Practice helicopter controls outside a mission when possible. Purchase income-producing properties when the story expects empire progress, but reserve money for weapons and mission failures. Complete side activities selectively; some provide useful permanent rewards.

Verify that walkthroughs match the original release because Definitive Edition mission behavior and controls may differ. Do not rely on music lists remaining identical across every re-release, since licensing can change available tracks.
