Diablo II remains a foundational action RPG whose classes, loot, atmosphere, and escalating difficulties still reward long-term character building. Diablo II: Resurrected is the practical modern version, though inventory friction, opaque breakpoints, and punishing mistakes preserve its old-school character.

Diablo II follows heroes pursuing the Dark Wanderer across four acts, with the Lord of Destruction expansion adding a fifth. Seven classes offer distinct skill trees, from the Sorceress's elemental spells and Necromancer's armies to the Paladin's auras and Assassin's traps. Randomized equipment and compact procedural zones drive repeated play.

Progression becomes deeper across Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. Resistances, attack speed, cast rate, hit recovery, rune words, mercenaries, and skill synergies matter increasingly. A rare item is not automatically better than a carefully chosen base with the right rune word.

The design is influential but unforgiving. Inventory space is tight, respecialization is limited, stamina is awkward early, and many mechanical breakpoints are not explained. Online trading and seasonal ladders add longevity but require caution around scams and third-party sites.

Diablo II: Resurrected preserves the original systems with modern presentation, controller support, shared storage, and current platform availability. It is ideal for players who enjoy planning builds and farming efficiently, less so for those expecting constant guided progression. Offline characters provide self-contained play, while online characters support ladders and trading but depend on service rules.

Choose a class and focus skill points on a coherent build rather than buying one of everything. Early experimentation is possible, but later difficulties reward synergy and concentrated damage. Keep resistances high, especially before Nightmare and Hell.

Use town portals, identify useful items, and store runes and strong bases. Learn rune-word requirements carefully: the item type, socket count, and rune order must all match. Equip the mercenary to support damage or survival.

Complete quests that award skills, resistances, and respecialization. Play online only through official services, verify trades, and avoid real-money item sellers. In Hardcore mode, death is permanent; learn encounters in normal play first.

Use waypoints and town portals to shorten dangerous corpse recoveries. Buy belts with more potion rows and organize health, mana, rejuvenation, and utility consistently. In later difficulties, slow down around elemental elites and curses; resistance penalties make attacks that were harmless in Normal suddenly lethal.
